This has been a very inactive year for me in terms of blogging, but that doesn’t mean that I’ve stopped watching anime. With the winter break giving me some time off, it means I can bring you another year of Nopy’s Top 10 Anime Girls.
As with my rules for previous years, a character can only make it on to this list if their series aired this year. This helps to disqualify characters from ranking in multiple years and gets some new faces on the list. I use a sophisticated and confidential grading system called “Nopy’s Subjective Ranking” which is based on looks, personality, achievements, and overall awesomeness to pick and order the top 10. No other ranking system comes close to subjectively picking out the best anime girls of the year. So without further ado, lets take a look at who the year’s top 10 are:
10. Nanana Ryuugajou (Ryuugajou Nanana no Maizoukin)
Just barely making the list is Nanana Ryuugajou, the busty, hiki-ghost. Although she comes off as s ditzy pudding-loving gamer, she’s actually a super genius with some incredible wrestling moves. Nanana also has a bit of a mysterious past surrounding her death, which is intriguing, and she is the mastermind behind all of the cool dungeons that protect her treasures.
9. Sylphy (Amagi Brilliant Park)
As with Nanana, Sylphy also seems to be a busty, ditzy girl, but the difference is that she actually is. Sylphy is your typical happy-go-lucky character that’s always smiling regardless of the situation. She has no special intelligence or a cool background as far as I know. So why then is she ranked higher? This:

8. Chitoge Kirisaki (Nisekoi)
This wouldn’t be a Nopy’s Top 10 list without a tsundere. At first Chitoge didn’t leave a very good impression with me. She was a haughty rich girl that treated guys unfairly. I started to open up to her later in the series as it delved into her history and she started showing some affection for others, namely Raku. More so than her personality, I loved how her facial expressions were animated. Chitoge’s parts in Romeo and Juliet also helped with her character development a lot.
7. Kisara Tendo (Black Bullet)
Admittedly, Kisara was rather boring for the majority of Black Bullet. The only thing she had going for her was that she was voiced by Yui Horie. It wasn’t until towards the end of the series when she went crazy that I thought “wow, Kisara’s actually pretty cool”. Throughout the series they had hinted at how awesome she was with a sword, but I felt that it didn’t really come through until she murdered her brother. Who wouldn’t like a girl voiced by Yui with some yandere potential?
6. Asseylum Vers Allusia (Aldnoah.Zero)
Asseylum, princess of Vers, is the first of 3 princesses on my list this year. She’s one of those characters that you either come to love or hate. I came to love her. Although her steadfast conviction to her ideals sometimes gets to the point of stupidity, it is that conviction that makes her admirable. Imagine the courage and bravery that it takes to stand between two sides bent on killing each other and preaching the ideals of peace and diplomacy. Her reaction to hostility directed towards herself also shows a level of class that you would expect from a princess. Few people would respond to attempted murder by trying to understand the other side and reconcile differences.
5. Nike Remercier (Soredemo Sekai wa Utsukushii)
Our next princess is Nike Remercier of the Rain Dukedom. Nike is like the superhero of princesses. Not only does she fight crime, she also has the superpower to call upon the rain and control other aspects of air and water. Despite being forced to marry the Sun King, she maintains her freedom with her ‘never take no for an answer’ attitude. Nike is also very emotionally observant, often stepping in to resolve emotional distress and being the only person that the king can open his heart up to. If Nike ruled her own kingdom, I’m sure it would grow and prosper.
4. Yona (Akatsuki no Yona)
The third princess on my list is Yona of the kingdom of Kouka. Although Yona starts off as a spoiled brat with no real skills or knowledge, unlike Asseylum and Nike, it’s her growth that places her above the others. Akatsuki no Yona hasn’t gotten to the point where Yona has developed into a strong character yet, but they did show a glimpse of the future early in the series and Yona looks amazing. Strong and determined, Yona becomes a warrior that protects her kingdom from threats. It’s a drastic change from the girl that used to fuss over her hair and hide behind people, but I guess you can’t expect less from her after she saw her childhood crush kill her father, was chased out of the only home she ever knew, and hunted across the kingdom.
3. Saya Tokido (Little Busters EX)
Long before Little Busters EX aired, I was impressed with the wallpapers I saw of Saya. Not only is she pretty, being a secret agent gives her a lot of chances to do cool poses with a gun. Saya has a bit of a tsundere attitude, but not really enough to be classified as one. The way she introduces some humour into the show despite being on a serious mission was also tastefully done. What really mad me fall in love with her character though was that “Key magic”. It’s heartbreaking to see a character like Saya struggle to spend as much time as she can with her lover by repeating the same time period over and over again, knowing full well that she is no longer part of the world and will need to put an end to her fantasy. The good mix of seriousness and humour, and her touching backstory earned Saya the number 3 spot on my list.
2. Jibril (No Game No Life)
We’re getting close to the top spot now. At number 2 we have Jibril of the Flugel race, who are powerful winged beings that value knowledge. Jibril is the most powerful of the Flugel and probably the smartest too given her love of books. Given the destruction that she has inflicted upon other races in the past, she is feared among many and has a superiority complex. Indeed, she does look terrifying sometimes:
Of course, she also looks cool with those cross eyes, spinning halo, fuzzy ears, and wings. Her personality also completely changes when she is faced with the prospect of gaining more knowledge, acting more like a rabid otaku. Lets just summarize what Jibril is: powerful, smart, sadistic, cool-looking, and fanatical. I’m in!
1. Chiyo Sakura (Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun)
It’s hard to top all of the qualities that put Jibril near the top of my list, but one girl managed to do just that: the cute and adorable Chiyo! Hailing from the comedy series Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun, I just knew that Chiyo would take the cake for cuteness the moment I saw her. After all, it’s hard to make a girl not cute when she’s based off of a Pokémon:
The cuteness factor wasn’t the only thing that I liked about Chiyo. Her never-ending struggle to get Nozaki to notice her is along the same level if not higher than that of Harima Kenji (look up School Rumble if you don’t know who he is). Although it might be heartbreaking for Chiyo to see that her feelings never get it through Nozaki’s thick skull, it has brought me many hours of laughter and “d’awww” moments.
Despite her repeated failures, it’s good to see that Chiyo remains optimistic and continues trying. She just wouldn’t be cute anymore if she stopped smiling. To top it all off, she’s quite the looker too, just check out the eye candy below. It’s rather surprising given that the series doesn’t have any ecchi in it.
